Dr. Franklin John Associate Professor

Design and synthesis of ultrasensitive SERS imaging probes in biologically Raman silent region, Department of Chemistry, Sacred Heart College,Kochi,India

Dr. Franklin John completed Ph.D in Chemistry from University of Konstanz, Germany (Synthetic Carbohydrate Chemistry group of Prof. Dr. Valentin Wittmann) in 2007. His research interests span at the interface between chemistry and biology. His graduate work is Synthesis of Sugar Diamino acids and Oligomer synthesis on Solid Support to develop new ligands for RNA targeting. From 2007-2010, he worked as post-doctoral fellow with Prof. Dr Tamara Hendrickson at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA and Wayne State University, Detroit, USA. GPI anchoring of proteins was the post doc research area.

In 2010, he returned to India and working as a faculty in Chemistry. Currently his research group is focusing on synthetic chemistry of anticancer drugs, synthetic modifications of Furanose/Pyranose based sugars, Synthesis of surface enhanced Raman spectroscopic probes for cell imaging. He is a member of Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC) and member of American Chemical Society.
