Lowering barriers to teaching programmatic chemical information searching: A use-case demonstrating the NCBI Entrez Direct (EDirect) unix tool
Date
April 16, 2021
A key component of sharing machine-readable chemical data is understanding what kind of data is currently available and how the data can be searched and/or acquired through programmatic methods. As such, it is becoming increasingly important for libraries and informational professionals to engage in teaching chemists how to access chemical information programmatically. This presentation will discuss my experiences as a chemistry librarian using the NCBI Entrez Direct (EDirect) Unix tool and how EDirect can be used as an excellent introductory tool for teaching chemists how to engage with PubMed, PubChem, and other NCBI databases programmatically.
FAIR chemical data needs to be machine-readable, an unfamiliar scenario for many stakeholders involved with managing, publishing and curating experimental data. An advantage in the Cloud environment is the availability of readily accessible online tools for working with digital content…
Momentum is building across the scholarly research ecosystem internationally to increase the sharing of data along with other research outputs, in particular to make more research data available that are FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable)…
The WorldFAIR Chemistry project, launched under the global WorldFAIR Initiative led by CODATA and the Research Data Alliance, aims to promulgate the use of chemical data standards in research data management workflows…
