Small microenvironments of water like droplets with 10 to 100,000 waters are fascinating cases where rate constants for ionic dissociation/recombination can strongly depend on radius and curvature of the droplet, interionic distance, and surface solvation of ions. These factors strongly influence the chemistry of water microenvironments in catalytic reactions, fuel cells, formation of minerals, etc. My presentation will discuss the atomistic models we use to simulate ion recombination in these systems, and our prediction about recombination reactions and rates of hydronium with hydroxide and bicarbonate ions in water droplets of size 1000 to 18000 waters.
The large-scale production of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) has been an important focus for the biopharmaceutical industry, with mammalian cell cultures, particularly the Chinese hamster ovarian (CHO) cells being the preferred host cell factories for their manufacture…
Using non-collinear spin-polarized first-principles calculations, we have investigated the properties of the hexagonal D019 (0001) Mn3Ga surface. Two different surface terminations were considered: type-1 and type-2, with opposite chiralities…
Nucleic acid therapeutics (SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccine) have huge implications in biomedicine, however their storage instability hinders their widespread clinical use. Current storage protocols (lyophilization, cold-chain storage) are expensive, thus inexpensive alternatives are desired…
