Real space orthogonal projector augmented wave method

Date
April 6, 2021

We developed an orthogonal projector augmented wave (OPAW) method, where the OPAW wavefunctions are made orthogonal by a numerically cheap transformation. For validation, we applied OPAW in DFT, and we showed that our OPAW-DFT code reproduces (for a large variety of solids) band gaps from the ABINIT package. A significantly larger grid spacing (smaller kinetic energy cutoff) suffices in OPAW compared to norm-conserving pseudopotentials (NCPP), as shown in the figure. The OPAW framework can be combined with other electronic structure theory methods as it removes the need to invert a large overlap matrix.

Stochastic Quantum Chemistry (SQC) is a new paradigm we developed for electronic structure and dynamics, which rewrites traditional quantum chemistry as stochastic averages, avoiding the steep power law scaling of traditional methods. As an example I will discuss Stochastic GW (SGW)…

Tuning range-separated hybrid functionals for periodic systems
Kohn-Sham DFT with optimally tuned range-separated hybrid (RSH) functionals provides accurate and nonempirical band gaps for a wide variety of finite-size systems. The standard tuning procedure relies on calculation of total energies of charged systems, and thus cannot be applied to periodic solids…

Calculating the energies of quasiparticles in very large systems using GPU-implemented stochastic GW | Poster Board #3440
The GW approximation in computational chemistry is an efficient method for calculating the self-energy of a many-body system of electrons, allowing us to more accurately capture the quasiparticle energies of highly correlated systems…

We simulate the effects of vacancy holes in 2D realistic molecular aggregates. For realistic aggregates, long ranged dipole-dipole interactions need to be included. Giant lattices, with millions of aggregates or more, and diagonal disorder, are simulated using stochastic techniques…
