The cannabanoid system has received increased attention and scrutiny with the winding pathway of cannibis legalization. While THC, the psychoactive component of marijuana, remains a scheduled drug, CBD, a non-psychoactive component, can be purchesed over-the-counter in many settings. The use of these cannabanoids in pallative care for cancer patients is well-known. What is less well-known are the relationships between the endocannabanoid system and cancer itself. Some studies have shown a more direct benefit to treating select cancer patients treated with cannabanoids. Our study probed the Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer (COSMIC) database to understand mutations to the cannabanoid system in cancer patients. While no driver mutations appeared, we have characterized the most frequent mutations within each protein's structure to better understand the interaction of cannabanoids and cancer.
