Dinuclear palladium(II) complexes containing 2,2'-bipyrimidine: Synthesis, spectral characterization, X-ray crystallography, and in vitro cytotoxicity

A series of novel dinuclear palladium(II) complexes were synthesized by the reaction of 2,2'-bipyrimidine with palladium(II) complexes containing either ethylenediamine, 2,2'-bipyridine or 1,10-phenanthroline as an ancillary ligand (L). In these complexes, the 2,2'-bipyrimidine ligand bridge two Pd(L)2+ units, with either nitrate or triflate ions completing the outer coordination sphere of the metal. These complexes have been characterized by infrared spectroscopy, 1H NMR, elemental analysis, and single-crystal x-ray diffraction. The biological activity of the complexes assessed for MCF-7 (human breast adenocarcinoma) will also be discussed.
