Benchtop NMR instruments have been integrated into organic laboratories at many different institutions for simple structure verification of products mainly through 1D proton and carbon spectra; allowing the students to gain familiarity and hands-on experience in an important analytical technique. Besides simple 1D analysis, modern benchtop NMR spectrometers enable more complex techniques to be incorporated into the curriculum of organic and instrumental analysis lab. These techniques include structure determination through 2D correlation experiments, quantitative measurements, and reaction monitoring for kinetic profiling. During this presentation we will discuss example laboratories that use the aforementioned NMR experiments to engage students in many different real-world applications. The incorporation of benchtop NMR spectrometers in undergraduate curriculum helps the students gain deeper understanding and experience using advanced spectroscopic techniques.
