Professor Winnik joined the Chemistry Department at the University of Toronto in 1970. About a decade later, his interests turned to polymer chemistry, where he and his students have made contributions to various topics. These include end-to-end cyclization of polymers in solution, FRET studies of polymer diffusion, particularly in latex films, and block copolymer self-assembly in solution, where he and Ian Manners created the field of crystallization-driven self-assembly. In recent years, his interests have turned to bioanalytical applications of polymers (mass cytometry) and biomedical applications (radioimmunotherapy and drug delivery).
