Session: Successful Student Chapters:

Xavier University of Louisiana's student chapter has prided itself on continual community service, exceptional professional development opportunities, mentorship, and social bonding amongst club members. During the 2020-2021 school year, we have provided members with socially distanced and safe activities to interact with fellow members, promote scholarship, and serve our local community. Members from our club have volunteered with STEM NOLA, written hospice letters, and participated in Hurricane Laura relief efforts. These opportunities have allowed club members to have an impact on both the Xavier and Greater New Orleans community by utilizing chemical concepts. Members also engaged in professional development activities such as research talks and academic panel discussions. At these events, members have the opportunity to gain advice and information regarding summer research opportunities. Additionally, our chapter has paired upperclassmen and first-year students together for our mentorship initiative. Mentor and mentee pairs are matched based on major and common interests. This initiative allows mentees to gain insight into their fields of study and how to balance academics with extracurricular activities. We also encourage club members to interact with one another at various social events such as trivia nights and lab coat tie-dying. It is through a commitment to these multi-disciplinary activities that Xavier University of Louisiana’s ACS Student Chapter continues to operate as a chemical force for good.
