Hartmut Herrmann’s research is well known for aqueous phase photolysis and radical reaction studies. Data thus obtained served as the basis for the creation of the CAPRAM model family, one of today’s leading atmospheric multiphase chemistry models. In addition to these studies, work in Leipzig covers field studies, aerosol chamber investigations all combining methods from physical and analytical chemistry to elucidate chemical mechanism important for atmospheric chemistry. The symposium will honor HHs contributions to the field of atmospheric chemistry such as the study of fundamentals and atmospheric/ environmental reactions in aqueous solution, the conduct of field experiments utilizing both real-time as well as analytical chemistry approaches for aerosol particles in air pollution and fog/clouds as chemical processors, and modelling of tropospheric multiphase processes. Accordingly, the topics that would be covered in this symposium, but not limited to, are: 1. Multiphase chemistry: Radical processes, inorganic chemistry, new oxidants; 2. Progress in field experiments on aerosols and fog/clouds; 3.Multiphase modelling.
