Sebastian Flieger earned his B.S. in Biochemistry at North Central College in Naperville, IL and his M.S. in Chemistry, with Distinction, at DePaul University in Chicago, IL. Sebastian is currently a PhD student at Loyola University Chicago in the research group of Professor Daniel Becker, where he focuses his research on designing and synthesizing novel carborane-containing drugs for Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) in treatment of cancer. In addition to his efforts on BNCT, Sebastian is also working on synthesizing novel class of antibiotics that specifically target the sodium-dependent NADH:ubiquinone oxidoreductase (NaNQR) complex and N-succinyl-L,L-diaminopimelic acid desuccinylase (DapE), which he will be presenting on today. In addition to his PhD, Sebastian is currently employed as Senior Functional Chemist at Stepan Company within their Synthesis group with primary focus on surfactant synthesis, innovation strategies/processes and IP growth.
