Dr. Daniel Palacios PhD

Senior Principal Scientist, Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research

Daniel Palacios was born in San Diego, California and attended the University of California at San Diego for his undergraduate education, studying with Prof. Yitzhak Tor. From there, he moved to the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign where he obtained his PhD investigating the mechanism of action of the antifungal agent amphotericin B under the supervision of Prof Marty Burke. Subsequently, Dan started his career in the Chemical Biology group at the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research where he led chemistry efforts on phenotypic hit and lead discovery projects across a number of indications including oncology, regenerative medicine, and neuroscience. Dan then transitioned to the Neuroscience Discovery Chemistry group where he has lead projects from lead identification through to clinical candidate selection. Currently, Dan is leading a project in the neurodegeneration space exploring a novel RNA targeting mechanism as the therapeutic modality.
