Dr. Bryant C Nelson PhD

Bryant C. Nelson is a staff research chemist at NIST in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He was educated at the University of Texas at Austin, B.Sc., Chemistry, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Ph.D., Analytical Chemistry and completed his postdoctoral training at NIST. His research has primarily focused on two distinct areas: (1) development and application of mass spectrometry methodology for characterizing and analyzing DNA damage and DNA repair and (2) development of methods and approaches for characterizing the potential toxicological, biological and therapeutic properties of engineered and cell-derived (e.g., extracellular vesicles) nanomaterials. He is currently leading the development of international standards and test methods for characterizing nano-enabled medical products and devices. He is on the editorial board of Mutagenesis, the Chair of ASTM International E56.08 (Nano-Enabled Medical Products) and a Councilor to the ACS representing the Analytical Chemistry Division.
