Novel 2D MBene materials:synthesis, properties and environment-related applications

Date
August 25, 2022

Recently, a new large family of two dimensional transition metal borides so-called MBenes, have grabbed considerable attention, thanks to their many fascinating chemical and physical properties that are closely connected to the rich diversity of the elemental compositions and surface terminations. Especially, it is practical for MBenes to make composites with other materials such as oxides, polymers, and prous carbons, which further offers an effective approach to tune the feature of MXenes for various applications. Not only have MBenes-based composite materials come into prominence as electrode materials in the energy storage technology, but they have also revealed promising potential in environment-related applications including photocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide, water purification, photocatalytic water splitting, and sensors because of their reducibility, high conductivity, and biocompatibility. In this talk, we will summarize the synthesis and properties of MBenes-based composites and highlight their recent advances in environment-related applications. Last but not least, the current challenges and future perspectives will be also outlined.
