The goal of this symposium is to bring together a broad group of academic, industrial and government researchers whose expertise and work in nanoscience and nanotechnology has current or potential applications to national defense and security efforts. Emphasis is on fundamental and applied research and examples of topics of interest include (but not limited to) the following:
• Low-density, high-performance materials
• Active, adaptive, reconfigurable materials
• Materials for detection and identification of chemical/biological threats.
• Materials for extreme environments
• Ultrafast, ultrasensitive, ultra-selective sensors
• Increasing personnel protection from chemical/biological threats.
• Detection of contaminants in water and power-free filtration methods
• One- and Two-dimensional materials
• Nanocomposites with ballistic resistance
• Nanostructures for optoelectronic applications
It is expected that all presentations will emphasize the potential applications to one or more defense and security challenges.
