Chemistry, back on the road again | Poster Board #1438
Date
March 27, 2023
In these past two years of a pandemic, public outreach and engagement came to a halt. This year a revitalized affiliates chapter at Roger Williams University participated in community outreach, campus events, student research, and a suite of chemical demonstrations to develop the theme of chemistry releasing the pressure. Students at Roger Williams University were eager to foster an interest in chemistry back again in their university and surrounding community. The chapter participated in homecoming weekend hosting a booth demonstrating the effect of pressure chambers on peeps, Magdeburg hemispheres, and pressurized chemical reactions. The chapter hosted educational talks on chemistry-sponsored tutoring sessions and pizza exam study evenings. Participated in the university’s annual Thanksgiving Turkey Basket Drive food drive putting together a chemistry-themed basket including periodic place setting and food molecular infographics cards. Our affiliates presented demonstrations to local elementary and middle schools where their students were able to simulate the bioluminescence and chemoluminescence of their favorite sealife cross-curriculum. We hosted the Gagliardi Distinguished Lecturer chemical seminar series for the fall and spring. In addition to presenting in the Spring at the national ACS meeting, student research was presented at regional meetings and numerous showcase events within the university.
