BODIPY compounds are promising dyes due to their high stability, molar absorptivity and quantum yields with applications as fluorescent probes, laser dyes and in vivo cell imaging. Bulky pyridyl substituted boron dipyrromethene complexes (BODIPY) were synthesized from their dipyrromethene precursors with boron trifluoride yielding boron difluoride complexes (N,N)BF2. The 3- and 4-pyridyl dipyrromethenes coordinate via the pyrrole nitrogens with BF2. In contrast, the pyridine nitrogen of the 2-pyridyl dipyrromethene coordinates with the boron in place of one of the pyrrole nitrogens. The compounds were characterized by NMR spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, and HRMS. Additionally, the photophysical properties of the complexes were investigated by UV/Vis absorption and emission spectra and quantum yield measurements.
Misinformation on the internet and social media is affecting our society in unanticipated ways. One example of the misinformation being spread on social media is herbal dietary supplements that claim to cure countless ailments and diseases…
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are toxic and persistent compounds that result from the production and use of fluoropolymers in products such as GoreTex® and Teflon®. PFAS tend to accumulate in water and resist all mainstream methods of water purification…
Students are often challenged in developing an understanding of what makes an effective scientific communication. Lab reports are viewed as a task and not as a form of scientific communication…
