Dr. Yue Yuan

Postdoctoral Researcher, Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Dr. Yuan received her doctoral degree in Fiber and Polymer Science (minor in Biochemistry) from the Department of Textile Engineering, Chemistry and Science, NC State University and now is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Forest Biomaterials. Her PhD work mainly focused on enzyme immobilization for bioactive reactors. She did her research internship at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), where she worked on isotope labeling of biopolymer from microorganisms to study the enzyme-biopolymer interactions. Dr. Yuan has created a unique interdisciplinary background at the interface between Fibrous Material Engineering, Surface Modification, Protein Chemistry and Material Characterization. Her research is strongly driven by emerging applications in biomedical and environmental fields, such as super-repellent surface, antibacterial surface and approach in low energy carbon dioxide scrubbing, where she uses scientific tools to analyze the materials and improve prototypes.
