V. Rao Kotamarthi

Senior Scientist, Argonne National Laboratory

Dr. Rao Kotamarthi is a senior scientist at the Argonne National Laboratory in the Environmental Science Division.  At the University of Chicago, Dr. Kotamarthi is a Senior Scientist At-large, Consortium for Advanced Science and Engineering and holds complimentary positions as an expert at the Energy Policy Research Institute.  Dr. Kotamarthi has nearly 30 years of experience in regional and global scale modeling of Climate, Air Quality and Atmospheric Composition, Data Assimilation and Radiative Transfer. He has authored over hundred journal articles and technical reports. At present, he serves as the Principal Investigator for projects ranging from regional scale climate modeling to wind energy.  These projects are funded by Department of Energy's Biological and Environmental Research Office and the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable EnergyIn addition, Dr Rao led a multi-year research project that assessed the climate change vulnerabilities of lifeline infrastructure systems -- transportation, power, water/wastewater, and telecommunications -- for the private and federal government sponsors.  He is also the principal author of a book titled "Downscaling Techniques for High-Resolution Climate Projections-From Global Change to Local Impacts', published by Cambridge University Press, UK, published in March 2021.
