Electrocatalysis is a rapidly developing field, with technologies poised to make significant contributions toward energy sustainability, climate change mitigation, and reducing societal carbon demand. Realizing these outcomes requires searching for promising, new electrocatalysts and developing a more fundamental understanding of the mechanisms of electrocatalysis. This symposium highlights recent developments, novel materials and concepts, and emerging perspectives on how the field can move past current barriers to enable increased deployment of electrocatalytic technologies in sustainable energy applications. We also invite submissions on recent experimental and computational advances in electrocatalysis for chemical production, from the conversion of CO2 to ethylene to the diversification of biomass- and waste-derived platform intermediates. Topics include but are not limited to: 1) Novel designs of electrocatalysts or electrocatalytic reactors; 2) Multimodal characterization, in situ, and operando methods; 3) Computational analysis of electrocatalytic systems and machine learning; 4) Mechanisms and kinetics of electrocatalytic reactions; 5) New concepts and perspectives in electrocatalysis; 6) Electrocatalytic conversion of biomass and waste stream to chemicals
