Professor Taleb H Altel

h Al-Tel received his MS in Natural Product Chemistry in 1990 from the Department of Chemistry, Jordan University and Pennsylvania State University, and PhD in 1995 from Tuebingen University-Germany followed by an NIH Postdoctoral Fellowship under the supervision of Professor Scott Sieburth, at State University of New York, Stony Brook, NY. In 2003 he was appointed as a visiting associate professor at Duke Chemistry Department, North Carolina. Al-Tel joined Transtech Pharma-USA, a Drug Discovery and Development Company from 2004 to 2007 as principal scientist and promoted to a Team Leader for Drug discovery groups (antiviral, anticancer, and Alzheimers). In 2007, he joined the college of pharmacy-University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates.
Scientific Contribution includes over 75 publications in leading journals; inventor on four US-patents and patent applications.
Research Interests: The research of AlTel is at the interface between biology and chemistry. AlTel focus area is drug design and discovery employing DOS for the synthesis of nature-inspired architectures.
Major Awards include: The German Award for the Exchange of Scholars (DAAD); Abdel Hameed Shoman Prize for Young Arab Researchers (1999); Fulbright Award (2003/2004); The Chemist of the Year Award-2005, TransTech Pharma-USA.
Scientific and Professional Activities include American Chemical Society-member and co-chair of the American Chemical Society-UAE-Chapter.
Academic Appointments: Professor of Organic Medicinal Chemistry at University of Sharjah. Chaired the Department of Medicinal Chemistry at the College of Pharmacy, University of Sharjah from 2009 to 20015. Current position: Director of the Research Institute of Medical and Health Sciences, University of Sharjah, Sharhjah, UAE (2014 to present).
