Today's graduating chemistry majors are entering a workforce where programming skills are essential to leverage the digital information landscape and yet programming is essentially missing in the undergraduate chemistry curriculum. Open source software and open data are opening new opportunities for educators to prepare students for the evolving needs of tomorrow's workforce. From programmatic access of data to applications of software-based analytics packages; schools, public code and data repositories, and research groups across the world are developing and posting new resources. This symposium seeks to bring together educators and developers of cheminformatics and data science technologies to share their experiences and resources with an eye on advancing their integration into the undergraduate chemistry curriculum.
