Sung Yun Yang is a professor of the department of Polymer Engineering at the Graduate school of Chungnam National University, also in the Department of Organic Materials Engineering at Chungnam National University. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees at Ewha Womans University in chemistry in 1991 and 1993, respectively. After working as a research scientist at KRICT and KIST until 1995. she moved to the USA to conduct her Ph.D. study. She obtained a doctoral degree in Polymer Materials Chemistry & Engineering at Polytechnic University (Brooklyn Polytech Institue), currently New York University, and moved to Boston in August 2000 and started her postdoctoral research at MIT. At MIT, under the supervision of Prof. Michael F. Rubner, she became one of the pioneers in the study of 'polyelectrolytes multilayers for biomedical applications. She came back to Korea in 2004 and started her career as a professor at CNU, continuing her research in synthesis of biofunctional polymers.
