Division/Committee: [CARB] Division of Carbohydrate Chemistry & Chemical Glycobiology

This symposium is focused on highlighting areas of women’s health, in which approaches based on carbohydrate chemistry, chemical glycobiology, and glycosciences, broadly defined, are uniquely positioned to produce significant impact. Glycans are intimately involved in virtually all pathophysiological processes, including conditions specific to women (e.g., reproductive health and many types of cancer). Better understanding of gender-specific differences in glycome composition may also minimize existing disparities in the treatment of commonly shared conditions (e.g, cardiovascular diseases, or diabetes). The hope for this symposium is to inspire women students and trainees to engage in glycoscience research and join the ranks of the CARB community.
