Dr. Stefan Schiesser

Stefan is currently an Associate Principal Scientist in medicinal chemistry at AstraZeneca, where he has been working on various projects from target validation and hit identification up to short listing of potential clinical candidates.

Before joining AstraZeneca Stefan completed a postdoc with Prof. Movassaghi at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT, USA) where he successfully synthesized two natural products. In 2014 Stefan completed his Ph.D. with Prof. Carell at the University of Munich (Germany) working on oligonucleotide synthesis and epigenetics.

Stefan has successfully led six academic collaborations, was invited to various lectures across Europe and gave multiple presentations at internationally recognized conferences. Stefan has supervised and mentored 11 students and teaches at universities across Sweden. During his career Stefan has received numerous awards and fellowships and is the author of 16 publications, which were cited more than 450 times.
