Stanna Dorn

Ph.D. Candidate, Organic Chemistry, Indiana University-Bloomington

Stanna is from Grayling, MI. She graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry and a B.A. in Music from Hope College in 2017, where she performed research under the guidance of Dr. Jeffrey B. Johnson. This involved the development of a rhodium catalyzed cross-coupling reaction resulting in the interconversion of quinolinyl ketones. While at Hope College, she had the opportunity to spend a summer in the Montgomery lab at the University of Michigan, where she synthesized non-native substrates for enzymatic testing. Stanna began her graduate studies at Indiana University in fall 2017, and joined the Brown lab shortly after. In the Brown lab, Stanna is currently working on carboboration reactions of alkenes via Cu/Pd synergistic catalysis, and has demonstrated the cross-coupling of tertiary alkyl-Cu complexes, as well as Cu/Pd-catalyzed alkenylboration joined with a double allylation sequence to make complex diol motifs.
