Session: Fundamental Research in Colloids, Surfaces and Nanomaterials:

Semiconductor InSe 2D materials are used in photo detectors due to their high photoresponsivity and thermal stability. InSe 2D materials are formed in different crystalline phases (α, β, γ) and oxidation states depending on their reaction conditions and based on that it has different lattice constants and band gap values. We are investigating the interactions and impact of InSe 2D materials on model membranes and organisms and the role InSe crystalline phase and morphology play in these interactions. InSe 2D materials are formed using a bottom-up hot injection method. This reaction leads to the formation of 2D flakes or nanoparticles depending on reaction time and temperature. The presentation will show detailed structural and optical properties characterization using electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Attenuated Total Internal Reflection Infra Red (ATIR-IR) spectroscopy and photoluminescence. The formed InSe 2D materials and nanoparticles are hydrophobic and therefore not water soluble. The InSe nanostructures are therefore coated with Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG) to render them soluble in aqueous media. The presentation will also demonstrate the use of fluorescence spectroscopic techniques for quantitative determination of the interactions and impact of 2D materials and nanoparticles on phospholipid vesicles and bacterial cells.
