Dr. Sebastien Monfette

Sr. Principal Scientist, Pfizer

Seb obtained his PHD in chemistry from the University of Ottawa under the direction Prof. Deryn Fogg. Under her guidance, Seb worked on the application of olefin metathesis catalysts to the formation of macrocycles as well as the formation of designer polymers for application in tissue engineering. He also developed his organometallic skills in the design of novel catalysts for olefin metathesis. Seb was also one of the early adopter of the Catalysis Center at the University of Ottawa. Upon graduation, Seb moved to Princeton where he joined the lab of Prof. Paul Chirik. There Seb work on the development of the first highly active and selective Cobalt catalyst for the asymmetric hydrogenation of olefins. In 2012, Seb took a position in the high-throughput screening group with Pfizer in Groton, CT. There Seb employed his combined expertise in organometallic chemistry and automation to the efficient formation of a plethora drugs and drug candidate. Since 2012 he has been part of the non-precious metal catalysis consortium between Pfizer, Boehringer-Ingelheim and Abbvie.
