One of the core evidences of chemical structure in experimental chemistry is spectroscopic analysis. Digital collections associating samples, spectra, and proposed structures of compounds are part of many experimental chemistry endeavors soon after a sample is produced in a laboratory and become central components of published work. This symposium will focus on solutions for spectroscopic data management that enable persistent connections to be made between those data, their experimental context, and associated chemical structures. Presentations are encouraged that relate to emerging standards for metadata associated with spectroscopic data as well as recommended best practices for management of data that maximize the potential for those data to be electronically shared, examined for quality and validity, and reused. Presentations on finding aids, data models, minimal metadata standards, vocabularies and ontologies, and automated methods of curation relating to spectroscopic data production, storage, and retrieval are especially encouraged.
