The title of this symposium acknowledges that ALL chemists are citizens. With respect to our chemistry students, some will pursue careers in the chemical sciences, health related sciences, and engineering. All, however, will have roles in decisions and behaviors that shape the future of their community and nation. Understanding the chemistry that underlies environmental, societal, and personal health issues is critical to having a sustainable future. The theme for this symposium focuses on what chemists can do, as responsible citizens, to assure a more sustainable world. This symposium welcomes all who in some way connect chemistry with to real-world civic issues, in particular sustainability, to engage students in learning. We would like to hear about the different contexts you select, what works well and what does not.
