Patrik Spanel

Patrik Španěl is Head of the Department of Ion and Cluster Chemistry and Chairman of the Council of the J Heyrovsky Institute of Physical Chemistry, Czech Academy of Sciences, Prague Czech Republic. He is investigating analytical techniques to monitor and quantify volatile compounds present in air, exhaled breath and those emitted by in vitro bacterial cultures He is also part-time Professor at Imperial College London, UK. He was placed first in the International Physics Olympiad during his studies. He is a specialist in the topic of electron and ion reactions in the gas phase and low temperature plasmas, in mass spectrometry and trace gas analysis. He was involved in development of the selected ion flow tube mass spectrometry, SIFT-MS, analytical technique.
