Session: Successful Student Chapters:

Aquinas College is a small school in the heart of western Michigan that has adapted quickly and effectively in the face of a global pandemic. Amidst this change, Aquinas’ student chapter has overcome adversity to continue serving and creating a community for students. We continue to provide volunteer tutoring opportunities for students in many forms including, socially-distanced, in-person, and virtually through many platforms.To celebrate National Chemistry Week, virtual and outdoor activities were planned. Events include a QR code scavenger hunt, seminar with an invited speaker, and socially-distanced paper mache in relation to the theme of “Sticking with Chemistry”. Students were able to safely gather and create a video of chemistry demonstrations for local schools to celebrate the feast day of Saint Albert the Great, an event we celebrate each year. To unite the STEM clubs on our campus, a murder mystery event was devised. This engaged the minds of our peers and motivated them to earn a fun prize. Along with these activities our chapter holds monthly meetings to connect with students in fun ways through games like pictionary and bingo or community building events like alumni panels. Through these events and activities, COVID-19 has not limited our student chapter. It has allowed us to think creatively and persevere in difficult times.
