Division/Committee: [COMP] Division of Computers in Chemistry

We have all seen the news and articles about the development of quantum computers. What is less discussed publicly is the impact that quantum computers could have on chemistry and the fact that chemistry has a huge role to play in the development of quantum computing. Molecules themselves can act as qubits in quantum computers, and techniques that have been used to advance computational chemistry can themselves be adapted to advance quantum computing. In return, quantum computing is predicted to give a lift to electronic structure theory, dynamics, and spectroscopy. This symposium will share the latest developments at the interface between chemistry and quantum computing and brainstorm new directions where chemists have a unique power to contribute to the field. Topics will include quantum computing algorithm development and molecular quantum computing architectures, as well as the back-and-forth orthogonal directions of using quantum devices to simulate chemistry and using molecules as a platform for quantum computing and simulation.
