Many graduate students, post-docs, and new faculty are eager to be primarily undergraduate environment (PUI) and are looking for information to help them understand the unique challenges associated with establishing an active research program in that environment and strategies to thrive. This half-day symposium will address the topics of why, how, and getting research supported. Presenters will be faculty members from PUIs who have successful undergraduate research programs and representatives from funding agencies. Our goal is share funding opportunities from ACS Petroleum Research Fund, The National Science Foundation as well as strategies to find small local starter awards. The setting for the symposium will be relatively informal to give members of the audience opportunity to ask questions both at the end of each presentation and during a panel with all the facilitators in the last time slot of the symposium.
