Many new faculty members at predominantly undergraduate institutions (PUIs) do not have a good understanding of the unique challenges associated with establishing an active research program involving undergraduates. A half-day symposium will address the topics of why, how, and funding. Presenters will be faculty members from PUIs who have successful undergraduate research programs and representatives from funding agencies including the ACS Petroleum Research Fund and The National Science Foundation. The setting for the symposium will be relatively informal to give members of the audience ample opportunity to ask questions and to interact with the panel of facilitators. The symposium is being co-sponsored by the Division of Chemical Education (CHED) and by the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) and is scheduled within the CHED program.
