Dr Maria Monagas PhD, MSc, BSc

Dr Monagas is a Senior Scientific Liaison for Dietary Supplements and Herbal Medicines at the United States Pharmacopeia (USP). She has a PhD in Food Science and Technology, MSc in Fermentation Technology and BSc in Chemistry. She is responsible for the development and revision of monographs and general chapters related to the Botanical Dietary Supplements Section of USP-NF and the Dietary Supplement Compendium (DSC). She also liaises between external stakeholders and USP Expert Committee Members and assists in planning and organizing Expert Committee and Expert Panels work assignments. Dr Monagas has more than 20 years of experience on the analysis and characterization of botanicals used as dietary ingredients, in particular of polyphenol-rich plants and derived ingredients (i.e., wine, grape seeds, almond skins, cocoa and cranberry, among other plants). She has contributed to more than 70 publications, including original scientific papers, review papers, book chapters and patents.
