Dr. Marco D Giles

Assistant Professor, Prairie View A&M University

Dr. Marco Giles is an assistant professor in the Department of Chemistry and Physics at Prairie View A&M University. He received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Tulane University in 2011. He completed a hybrid teaching and research fellowship in the NIH-IRACDA Program at Baylor College of Medicine with Jin Wang (2011 - 2014), followed by a one-year postdoctoral fellowship with Karen Wooley in polymer synthesis at Texas A&M University (2014 - 2015). The Giles Research Group focuses on synthesizing and characterizing linear and dendritic polymeric systems for biomedical and environmental applications. Additionally, his group investigates fundamental syntheses of new and attractive macromolecules with interesting physical, mechanical, and thermomechanical properties. This group employs several synthetic approaches, such as polyester dendrimer synthesis, ring-opening polymerization, and living radical polymerization, to produce versatile macromolecules capable and valuable for improving the quality and effectiveness of drug delivery and environmental health.
