Session: Successful Student Chapters:

The pandemic has drastically reduced the number of students on the campus of GGC, and made experts of everyone in online video conferencing. Yes, we have had our share of socially distanced and masked up outside endeavors, but the majority of our activities are now mostly virtual. NCW on campus events included: mole day guacamole and chips (outside) and student led chemistry demonstrations such as, exploding pumpkins, extracting pumpkin DNA, elephant toothpaste and lots more (which were all recorded and then the videos shared). Off campus activities at the Fernbank Science Center in Atlanta, and celebration of the Atlanta Science Festival, were both cancelled. We did manage to celebrate Halloween on campus, but there was no liquid nitrogen ice cream this year. Our GGC S3 “Super Saturday Series” outreach, which combines chemistry with technology, still went ahead, but via Zoom to all the middle and high school-aged girls who had previously picked up ready-made baggies of the experiments that they were to perform (e.g., materials for making both glue, and chromatography butterflies). These kits, put together by the club officers, were also sent out to local elementary schools.
