Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) is commonly used for analysis of cannabis products. Cannabidiol (CBD) oil is derived from the cannabis plant and is a popular holistic remedy, with an exponentially increasing market. In recent years, the market for CBD oil has drastically taken off and now, CBD oil can be purchased almost anywhere. It contains possible health benefits; however, it also contains potential risks. Therefore, it is vital that research is done on CBD oil due to the huge void of reliable information regarding its chemical content. The lack of valid regulation on the product emphasis the need for this project. During this experiment, a variety of commercial CBD oil samples was analyzed using the GC-MS instrument to detect certain cannabinoid compounds such as CBD, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabinol (CBN), and others. Numerous chemicals other than the cannabinoid compounds were detected and identified, including chemicals from oil tinctures and hemp extracts.
