There has been an increase in the usage of electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) since their first entrance into the United States markets in 2007. The e-liquids used for ENDS list few ingredients on the bottles, but studies have shown that there can be up to 113 different chemical components in some brands. The goal for this project is to identify the chemical components within the e-liquid of nine different brands. The chemical composition of the e-liquids was analyzed qualitatively using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and identified using the similarity search function. The chemicals were classified in groups depending on known health effects. The purpose of this project is to educate people, especially the younger age group that utilizes ENDS, on the contents of the e-liquid being inhaled and the effects that could occur.
