Kimberley Cousins

Kimberley Cousins obtained her B.S. in Chemistry in 1984 from Duke University and a Ph.D. (organic chemistry) in 1991 from the University of Texas at Austin. After serving as a Camille and Henry Dreyfus Teaching-Research Fellow at Hendrix College, and as a lecturer at Southwestern University and Austin Community College, Dr. Cousins began her career at CSUSB. She teaches primarily organic chemistry for majors and non-majors using a variety of evidenced-based teaching strategies including POGIL. Since 2012 Dr. Cousins can been involved in two NSF-funded pedagogy projects to promote faculty professional development in using evidence-based teaching methods through an equity lens. Dr. Cousins has supervised more than 120 undergraduate, graduate and high school students in research, and her current research interests are primarily in using computational methods to study functional materials, along with related experimental studies, through the Center for Advanced, Functional Materials.
