(FINANCIAL CO-SPONSORS: IBM) Certain problems in Chemistry have been identified as some of the most promising areas to explore solving with quantum computers. Specifically, areas where quantum computing has been predicted to provide an advantage over classical computing includes the simulation of (bio)chemical systems, calculations of energetics (e.g. ground and excited states) for molecular systems, modeling complex chemical dynamics, and more. The goal at the ACS Spring 2025 symposium is to provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the current state of quantum computing towards solving chemistry problems and provide attendees with a hands-on experience using IBM's quantum computing hardware through Qiskit. The collaborative session on quantum computing will include hands-on workshops that provide attendees with education on quantum computing and quantum information science. These hands-on exercises will enable participants to gain firsthand experience with IBM's quantum computing hardware and processors. Participants will leave the session with an appreciation for how quantum computers can be used today to research topics in Chemistry. By participating in this session, attendees can expect to gain a solid foundation in quantum computing principles and concepts, develop practical skills in operating and programming quantum processors, learn about cutting-edge research in quantum computing, specifically as it relates to chemistry, and engage in discussions with experts in the field, expanding their knowledge and network.
