Dr. Juan Liu

Associate Professor, Peking University

Juan Liu is an associate professor in College of Environmental Sciences and Engineering (CESE) at Peking University (PKU), China. She received her Ph.D. in Geochemistry at Virginia Tech, USA. During 2010-2013, Dr. Liu worked as a staff scientist in Geochemistry group at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), USA. Since joining PKU in 2013, she has focused her research efforts in: (1) Environmental Biogeochemistry: molecular mechanisms of electron transfer at the microbe-mineral interface and related biogeochemical processes; (2) Environmental Mineralogy: mineral-water interactions and their influence on mineral transformations and contaminant transformation in environmental and biological systems. She is Associate Editor of Geochimica et Cosmochimica Acta and Mineralogical Magazine. Her group has developed many research tools for understanding biogeochemical processes of iron oxide minerals at the microscopic scale, including in situ liquid transmission electron microscopy, X-ray magnetic circular dichroism, and mathematical models.
