Josh Halpern is Professor of Chemistry Emeritus at Howard University where he taught for 40 years. Halpern's scientific research was eclectic, including materials sci, planetary chemistry and chemical physics. He has worked WITH colleagues at community colleges, research universities, national laboratories and internationally, building, operating and obtaining support for successful programs benefitting students and faculty. This includes being the founding Director of the DC Space Grant Consortium, director of the NASA GSFC Summer Faculty Program, an NSF PREM involving Prince George's CC, Gallaudet and Johns Hopkins. The later evolved into projects with Cornell, MIT and Harvard and Howard, Gallaudet and PGCC. As Halpern took phased retirement in 2014, he began to work with LibreTexts, the major online source of free chemistry textbooks and today is a member of the leadership team, as well being a key part of PGCC's zero cost textbook initiative.
