Session: Analytical Division Student Poster Session: Celebrating the Research of Minority Undergraduate and Graduate Students:

Chemosensors based on traditional fluorescent dyes have always playing important roles in the chemical sensor area. In this review, the improvements and applications of chemosensors based on three kinds of organic dyes (rhodamine, naphthalimide and PDI) in recent three years (2018-2020) are discussed, mainly focusing on the chemosemsors for cations (metal ions and H⁺), anions (CN^-, F^-, OCl⁻, etc.) and small bio-functional molecules (thiols, amino acids, etc.). Sensors based on rhodamine and naphthalimide are well developed while the repeatability of rhodamine-based sensors and the sensitivity of naphthalimide remain to be improved. Because of the aggregation tendency of PDI, the application of PDI-based chemosensors have been greatly restricted. Here, a novel and bold idea is proposed that decorating the PDI with groups with aggregation induced emission to utilize the PDI aggregation property and subsequently extend the applications of PDI-based chemosensor.
