Modern biorefinery offers a path to equitably enable the circular economy and to mitigate climate change. It transforms biogenic raw materials and waste products into chemicals, engineered materials, food, and fuels via biological, chemical and/or physical processes. This ACS Presidential Symposium will examine the current state of modern bio-refineries, tools needed for progress, and obstacles to surmount in the quest for a brighter future. Topics may include: 1. Historical perspective 2. Environmental issues 3. Logistics 4. Legal Implications 5. Socioeconomic implications 6. Processes and Product yields 7. QA/QC 8. Case studies 9. Financing 10. Types 11. Ethics The symposium will be a mix of invited and submitted presentations. There will be oral presentations and posters. Scientists at all career stages and educational levels who have worked in the area of biorefinery are welcome to submit abstracts. Graduate and undergraduate students are particularly invited to submit posters.
