The field of research on colloidal inorganic semiconductor nanocrystals is at the forefront of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Recent advances in colloidal synthesis, surface chemistry and assembly have enabled unprecedented control, properties and phenomena in a wide spectrum of materials systems, including novel perovskite, VI-II semiconductor, V-III semiconductor, multinary nanocrystals and more. Understanding the surface, dopant, interface, strain and defect from an atomic level is a powerful approach to optimize the optical, electronic, thermal and magnetic properties and to integrate nanocrystals into systems for diverse applications in lighting and displays, (opto)electronics, energy harvesting and storage, catalysis and sensing. This symposium will focus on, but not limited to, the following topics: (1) Colloidal synthesis, shape and composition control, facet of nanocrystals and surface chemistry; (2) Mechanisms on crystal nucleation and growth, and self-assembly; (3) Optical, electronic, thermal and magnetic properties and new observations; and (4) Applications in lighting and displays, (opto)electronics, energy harvesting and storage, catalysis and sensing, etc. This symposium will bring the community together to discuss the most recent advances, challenges and new directions of semiconductor nanocrystals, provide excellent opportunities for collaboration, and foster the next generation of young researchers in this stimulating and interdisciplinary field.
