Ian Rhile earned his BS from Ursinus College in 1996 and his MS and PhD from Cornell University in 1998 and 2002, respectively. After a postdoctoral appointment at the University of Washington, Dr. Rhile joined the Albright College faculty in 2005. He has taught courses in general chemistry, organic chemistry, and the science of food and cooking, and he was promoted to professor in 2018. In 2011, he received the Dr. Henry P. and M. Paige Laughlin Distinguished Faculty Award for Teaching for his efforts in teaching. In 2022, he received the Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award. As an organic chemist, Dr. Rhile's, research interests are in the areas of physical and mechanistic organic chemistry, with a focus on proton-coupled electron transfer. In addition, he has published an organic chemistry laboratory, parametric equations on atomic orbitals, and a reflection on emergency remote teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic.
