Hyun Yoon

PhD student, Cornell University

Hyun is a PhD student in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University. He is currently performing research in the Ecological Engineering Research Laboratory at Cornell with guidance from Dr. Matthew Reid. His research interests lie at the intersection of environmental microbiology and aquatic chemistry. His primary current project focuses on the microbial roles in arsenic (As) cycling in aquatic environments. This research approaches the effects of aquatic chemistry on As uptake by microbes and seeks to connect it to As methylation/demethylation in environments. This will be also developed into studies uncovering the microbial genes responsible for As demethylation which has been less studied. He hopes that his works will contribute to a better understanding of the fate of As and its bioavailability which would lead to the better As control to address the global problem of As contamination in rice.
