Developing pathways utilizing biomass and waste sources to produce green hydrocarbon fuels and chemicals is key to reduce CO2 emissions and achieve decarbonization goals. This symposium will cover the following research areas: Catalysts and processes for conversion of lignocellulose, starch, sugars, lipids, waste (e.g., landfill, industrial, municipal) to fuels and chemicals; novel methods, analytical tools, and characterization techniques for biomass (derived) and waste feedstocks. This session will also highlight advances in integrated catalyst and process development for upgrading biomass and waste carbon sources to value added products. We welcome abstracts detailing targeted applications in hard to decarbonize industries and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions. New experimental directions pertaining to process intensification (e.g., reactive capture, tandem catalysis and integrated unit operations) and accelerated aging/deactivation studies are of particular interest.
