Dr. Hongda Chen

National Program Leader, USDA/NIFA

Dr. Hongda Chen is the National Program Leader of Bioprocess Engineering and Nanotechnology at National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), USDA. He provides national leadership for nanoscale science and nanotechnology for agriculture and food systems. He also looks after the portfolios of food safety and quality, food engineering and processing technology, and advanced manufacturing. Dr. Chen received his M.S. in food science and technology, and Ph.D. in engineering from University of California, Davis. He was a tenured professor of Food Engineering at University of Vermont before joining USDA in 2000. Dr. Chen is an elected Fellow of American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE), Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), and International Academy of Food Science and Technology (IAFoST) of IUFoST. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Association for Engineering and Food (IAEF).
